I U / 4-3-2008

The Indiana basketball program was marred in controversy this past season after the ordeal with Head Coach Kelvin Sampson. They took a big step towards revitalizing that program when they hired Tom Crean as their Head Coach on Wednesday. Tom called into the show on Thursday to talk about the opportunity at I U, the obstacles he may face, and the relationship he hopes to have with Bob Knight.

Tom told me that the name 'Indiana' was the overriding factor when deciding on whether or not he should take the job. He knows that there are still a lot of questions about what the NCAA will choose to do in punishing the team, but he said it is still 'Indiana' and he is honored to be the new head coach there.

Tom also told me that he has no idea what Hoosier star Eric Gordon plans to do. Coach said that he doesn't know Eric well enough to have that kind of conversation with him.

Coach also said that he hopes to talk to Bob Knight about the job at Indiana and he will try to welcome him to come back around the program. That might be a tough considering Knight hasn't wanted anything to do with the program in 8 years. But that is a great hire for Indiana! Tom Crean is a great coach that does it right!
