The Los Angeles Angels were just swept by the Twins to finish up a 1-5 road trip. Look, they’re just not right and there’s not telling when they will be. Maybe it’ll help to come home, but you don’t a lose a teammate the way they did Nick Adenhart and not have it effect you.
This isn’t a matter of “fighting through a slump”, “grinding your way through an injury” or “shaking off an error” that cost your team a game. This is seeing a teammate, a guy that a number of the Angels grew up with, with you one moment and gone the next. A teammate and two others tragically killed in the prime of their lives. These guys might be physically and mentally tougher than 99 percent of the planet, but nothing in their athletic background can prepare them to deal with that.
Of course, they’ve struggled since losing Adenhart. The only shock would be if they didn’t! It’s not an excuse or a cop out. It’s a fact! I don’t care who you are, or what field you’re in or how badly you want it…you don’t go through that and not have it effect you.
Although you never really get over something like that, you just look to get past it. Ultimately, they’ll be fine. They’re just not right now.
