Hornets Head Coach / 4-30-2008
|
The Hornets handed the city of New Orleans their first playoff series title last night, putting away the Dallas Mavericks in five games. They will get the defending champion Spurs next. Their head coach Byron Scott had a good Tuesday. He won the NBA's Coach of the Year Award earlier in the day, and then advanced in the NBA playoffs later that night. Byron called into the Jungle on Wednesday to talk about his team and the honor of winning Coach of the Year.
Byron told me that he was glad to get the series over and done with at home Tuesday night. He did not want to have to go to Dallas for a game six and was proud of the way his team finished off the series.
Things did not end well for Byron in New Jersey four years ago. A team mutiny got him fired from the Nets and Jason Kidd was reportedly in the middle of that. But Byron told me that he does not want to go back to the past and that he is in a much better situation now. Since Byron won't say it, I will! It seemed to be very fitting that Byron beat Jason Kidd's Dallas team. I guess he can coach a little.
