Team USA completed their quest of redemption at the Olympic Games in Beijing with a Gold Medal game win over Spain. One of the members of the USA team was point guard Deron Williams. He was one of several players on that team who said winning the Gold was their greatest basketball achievement. Deron called into the Jungle on Friday to talk about how much the win meant to him and to talk about what it was like walking around Beijing as worldwide celebrities.
Deron said the reason the Gold meant so much to the players was because they were representing their country against the rest of the world. He said it wasn't “just a game between the Jazz and the Lakers”…that it was the best in the world playing against the United States and they came out on top.
Kobe Bryant could not go anywhere without being mobbed by the Chinese locals. Deron told me that he was surprised at how well people knew him and how many people recognized him when they were out and about.
