Being Captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup team is not an easy task. After years of under-achieving and the pressure to win this time out, Paul Azinger was under the gun without Tiger Woods this year. Paul called into the Jungle on Wednesday to talk about how his team beat Europe this past weekend and brought the Ryder Cup back U.S. soil for two years.
He pointed out on the show that he and the team had been campaigning in Kentucky for the locals to go out at support the team and become the 13th man on the range. The crowd was a huge motivational factor for the team!
I said at the time that Paul was the perfect choice for this team, for many reasons. I asked him if he would consider coming back in 2010 to be the Captain again and he didn't sound like he would want to do it again. I don't blame him, get out while you are on top and let the next guy handle the pressure.
