American Pro Tennis Player / Ranked 9th World / Ranked 8th ATP / 9 ATP Tour Titles / Author: "Breaking Back: How I Lost Everything and Won Back My Life" / James talked about why he decided to write the book about his career, saying that few players have the chance to do it. He said the book is not just about tennis, but more about getting to know him on a personal level. He talked about 2004 being a life changing year after his neck injury on the court. James talked about only getting one note of concern from Roger Federer, but says the game of Tennis can be a “selfish” sport among the players. James talked about how the injury became a good thing so that he could spend time with his father who was battling cancer and being able to say the things he wanted to him before he died. James went onto say that his father was a “Superman” to him. Both Rome and James went into a touching tribute to both their fathers as both lost their fathers at a young age to cancer. James went then talked about a serious case of shingles that temporarily paralyzed half his face and blurred his sight, crippling him from playing the game. While he was out, that’s when he decided to write his book. James talked about how he use to focus on the negatives while on and off the court, but now it’s all about focusing on the positives which has helped him get where he has gotten to in the sport. James talked about if he would be the player he is today if he had not gone through all the “life lessons” he’s faced. He talked about facing the fact that his most memorable match in his career that fans will remember will be the match he lost Andre Agassi, but said that although he lost…the game of Tennis won. |
