One of the best stories in college football this season is the Ball State Cardinals. Not only are they undefeated and in first place in the Mid-American Conference, they are in the Top 25 for the first time in school history. But, there is a great story within the Ball State story. His name is Brandon Crawford. Brandon is a 32-year old ex-Marine who joined Ball State as a walk-on three years ago. Now he is a Defensive Captain and an impact player on a team that could very well run the table this season!
Brandon called into the Jungle on Monday to tell his story. His dreams of playing college football were derailed after an illegal incident in high school. After working in an automotive factory, he joined the Marines Corps and served our country for four years. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marines, Brandon used the G.I. Bill to get into Ball State where he hoped to try out for the school's football team.
Not only did Brandon make the team as a walk-on in 2006, he led the team in sacks the next season and is now one of their Captains. A great story that gives all of you “weekend warriors” hope.
