'Bama Has Nothing To Apologize For

I don’t know that I have ever seen a more disjointed, bizarre start to a national title game than what shook down in Pasadena last night. Then again, we should have known something weird was about to happen when Flea, slap-bassed his way through the national anthem. That was the pre-cursor to the most over the top call of Nick Saban’s career! That desperate, deek-job of a fake punt, deep in his own end, at the start of the game! Like he was a 4 touch down underdog or something!

Kirk Ferentz’ fake field goal thought that never had a chance.

Then Colt McCoy took that routine hit and came off the field, one flap down like he was former San Francisco Giant Jeffrey Leonard after a big bomb. (And if you think I referenced that just so I could show it on JRIB, you’re right! Best homerun trot ever. Way to be, Jeffrey).

Anyway, back to this century. I get that a couple of teams coming off an extremely long layoff and busting with nervous energy... More »

Colt McCoy's Worst Nightmare

Alabama has nothing to apologize for…and they should keep their rings. But, there will always be a “yeah but attached to this one”, because McCoy didn’t go. I’m not saying Texas wins if he plays. I’m saying seeing him go down in their opening series was a huge buzz-kill. And it tainted the entire night. And McCoy’s right when he says it would have been a whole lot different had he been able to play.
Again, I’m not saying Texas would have won. And credit to ‘Bama for the lick. The goal of every defense is to knock the opposing team’s starting Q.B. out, and they did!
He didn’t go down stepping off the bus or in practice earlier in the week. They knocked him out!
But, having McCoy go down did throw a wet blanket on the entire proceedings. Of course, it would have been different…McCoy is college football’s most winning Q.B. ever…not a wide-eyed freshman who was rushed into the national championship game for his first real... More »

Nick Saban Is A Coaching Freak

And I guess that curb stomping Utah laid on them in last year’s Sugar Bowl really did stay with Nick Saban and the Tide. Saban is an absolute beauty! What a coach. Two national titles, with two different programs in 6 years and didn’t nearly drop dead trying to get them. The cat looks fresh! Like he’s just getting started! Like he has it all under control!
And I mean “under control”. Ever see a more controlling guy than Saban?!
And how about when his guys hit him with the Gatorade?! Best Gatorade shower in the history of college football. This cat’s reaction was priceless! I get that having cold, sticky, electrolytes doused on you when you’re trying to work and finish the biggest job of your life is pretty irritating. And if you’re rocking all white getting hit with pink ‘Rade isn’t good for your look! But that cat swung around after it happened like he wanted to go! No high fives, hugs, or smiles.
Then again, it’s not like the... More »
