Brees Fires Up Saints’ Fans

Just when you think Drew Brees couldn’t be any cooler or any more beloved in New Orleans….this amateur video drops. It’s Brees rolling into Lucy’s, an old school New Orleans’ watering hole after the Saints’ victory parade and grabbing the mic! One thing to thank them for their support…quite another to do what he did! I see that, I say awesome.

It takes a different kind of cat and leader to walking to a bar full of over served patrons and rally them like that. Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t see Peyton Manning doing that. Or Tony Romo! Brett Favre maybe…“Pants on the Ground”!

Never mind New Orleans, at this point Brees is so revered, so beloved, he could probably walk into a bar in Indy and pull that off. When he said “five”, the Colts’ fans would scream “six”. When he said “win”, Peyton Manning would yell for “kicks”!

And it’s just not drunk, ecstatic fans. Check that effect he has on his own team... More »

Vonn Doubtful She Can Compete

There’s not enough snow and the most transcendent star in the Olympics, Lindsey Vonn is on the shelf with a jacked up stick…think NBC is sweating that very much? Uh-oh! If she can’t go, or does go and isn’t right, that’s no problem. I’m sure some they can throw together a syrupy vignette about some anonymous curler who fought back crazy odds to star at these games, to pick up the slack.

Look, even if you don’t know anything about skiing, you probably know Lindsey Vonn! That’s the whole point…she’s transcendent. You’ve seen her in commercials and on the cover of magazines. The alleged breakout star of these games…Vancouver’s “Michael Phelps”. Or at least she was supposed to be until she jacked up her shin in a practice run recently in Austria.

All of that said…even if she’s not right…don’t sleep on her. There’s no one on the mountain tougher than she is. And she’s proven she can not only ski with pain, but win.... More »

Lavar Arrington Vs. Clinton Portis

There’s a commotion in the district, yellow tape and a chalked outline of where “Jank Spanky’s” body was in the street. And authorities are looking for one Lavar Arrington. Because what he did to Clinton Portis was criminal! Portis started this street-fight telling the NFL Network, in essence, that Arrington didn’t want to be in Washington back in the day because he was no longer, the biggest, richest, star on the team. “Uh-oh.” One thing to take a run at fullback Mike Sellers and try to get him benched. Or even to call out Q.B. Jason Campbell for not leading from the front. Quite another to take a run at Arrington!

He just swung on the wrong cat. Arrington says it wasn’t about the money. It was about the leadership. Something Portis clearly doesn’t understand. Arrington went on to say, it was about legacy and respecting the game, something else “Southeast Jerome” doesn’t get! That’s not a response. That’s a massacre! That’s verbal... More »

Danica Patrick

Of course, the way Danica Patrick looks has opened some doors for her, doors that wouldn’t otherwise open for some other nameless, faceless, anonymous driver chasing the dream. Who cares?! Business is “business” and those same doors are going to slam shut if she can’t deliver. It doesn’t matter how novel she is or what she looks like if she’s not competitive. And at this point, I don’t know that she will be.

Sure, she made a nice statement in last week’s ARCA event. She did better than most expected, finishing sixth, avoiding a crash, and saving her car in the process. It was impressive and she earned the right to take the next step. But, ARCA isn’t NASCAR. And it really isn’t a Daytona nationwide event.

Now, she’s taking a big swing. She just got the call up from the lowest independent league to Triple-A. And she’ll be trading paint with a deep, tough field featuring some of the best drivers in the Sprint Cup. In other words, I... More »
