J.R. Smith Sporting Third-Best Tat Ever
No sooner than he finished dropping daggers on the King and the Cavs, Carmelo Anthony played the “we’re not getting the respect we deserve card”. That’s where I typically bust out and saying nothing is more tired than cats saying they’re being disrespected. And that they should lead their team to something that matters before breaking out that card. But in this case, I’m not going to. ‘Melo’s’ right! They do deserve more respect. Well, at least his teammate J.R. Smith does. Well his neck does. Check out my man’s ink! Awesome! Check out the Yankee logo right over his throat. Repping the ‘Big Apple’ on your Adam’s apple is hard! Respect, J.R. Now, if you can just get Derek Jeter to ink the Nuggets’ logo on his throat. Even better, move over a few inches, and what do you have…a Transformer’s logo! Of course!!! The last thing you want is anything to take away from the Yankee logo on your throat and the only thing that can... More » |
Kobe Morphs Right Back To “Mamba”
We kicked around the question on the JRIB forum yesterday…what would Kobe Bryant be like after missing 5 games and 18 days? Would he immediately morph back into the “Mamba” and kill it? Or, was there going to be too much rust to knock off for him to go assassin? Seems like a pretty ridiculous conversation now, doesn’t it?! His first bucket back was from about 25 feet out, with a hack job, and a whistle! And-one…sucka’s! And then he finished what he started by knocking in a three ball with four seconds left after O.J. Mayo went “M.D.E.”, cinder-blocking his throws. Right, because everyone in the building didn’t know that was coming. Well, everyone except the five Grizz’ on the floor, who made sure the game’s best finisher got the best look possible! Because there was no switch on that pick. Yeah, because Philip was going to grease-board that three ball for Pau Gasol! And even if he did, Bryant was going to shoot it and make it any... More » |
Brian Westbrook Cleans Out His Locker
Another day, another all-time ankle-breaking feature back cleans out his locker. First it was LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego and now it's Brian Westbrook in Philly. And like I said yesterday about L.T., I’d love to say the same. But, as was the case with Tomlinson, I can’t. And there’s no shock here! In the end, Westbrook gave them absolutely everything he had, maybe even more, but he was just too big a risk physically and had too big a cap number to bring back. But make no mistake, this cat, was the poster child for beating the system and proving people wrong. A guy who attacked the “Shield” with a chip on his shoulder and left countless tacklers grabbing air with some of the best shake of his generation! The undersized, small school back, who ran a 4.5 coming out, but went on to be the sport’s most electrifying game-breaker for a couple of years. Andy Reid said it best yesterday…“Westbrook had no weaknesses.” He’s right! He was... More » |
NBA Teams That Touch Each Other
You ask any NBA coach or GM and they’ll tell you one of the most valuable assets a team can have, is one you just can’t buy. Chemistry! You can put five Hall of Famers on the floor, but if they don’t have chemistry, they don’t have rings. And the only teams that think it doesn’t matter…are the ones that don’t have it. The question is, how do you get it? Is it a matter of players bonding in the off-season? Or, keeping close to one another on the road? Neither. According to the New York Times, it’s all about players touching one another on the court. And the teams that do it most tend to have the most success: “good teams tended to be touchier than the bad ones. The most touch-bonded teams were the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers, currently two of the league’s top teams; at the bottom were the mediocre Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Bobcats.” In other words bumping “knucks” and “knocking hips” is almost as...
