Lakers Are Not In Trouble
The Lakers v. Magic may have looked and felt like Game 7 of the NBA Finals, and judging from some of the reaction here and around the nation, a number of you do think the Lakers have completely unraveled and the Magic really did just win it all. Yeah, that or the Lakers lost by a bucket to a team that was in the NBA Finals last year, in their house, in a game they needed even worse than L.A. A team L.A. beat last year for the title. To quote, Chris Johnson…"c'mon son"… The Lakers' season isn't imploding any more than the Magic got revenge yesterday with that win. What are you going to tell me next? That the Magic are now the team to beat, because they've have a Kobe stopper in Matt Barnes? That Barnes somehow got in the "Mamba's" head, under his skin, took him out of his game and intimidated him? Really, that's all it takes to rattle the game's mentally toughest player? Get up into him a bit physically, gum-bump some four letter bombs... More » |
Ron Artest's Crazy "Do"
Another reason I'm not hammering the panic button on the Lakers, is because "Ron-Ron" tricked out his lettuce. I get that a chunk of the "Laker Nation" thinks the team was better with Trevor Ariza than it is Artest. And that Artest himself is still trying to figure out what it's like to be option number four…instead of one or two. And that he's been dinged and not necessarily what everyone thought he would be. But they brought this guy in for what he could do in April and not before. And I like the guy’s attitude and most of all I love his lettuce. That’s not some cheap pub-grab or a look a me dye-job. That's Artest looking to kick-start his inner "Ron-Ron". The "tru-warrior" has been the true gentleman, and that's not going to fly. And he knows it. He needs to get back to playing really rough basketball. The way it was back in the day. Remember the "guy getting killed with a table leg" story? He decked out his... More » |
Tebow Charges $160 For Autograph
What would you give to get Tim Tebow's signature on a piece of paper? Apparently, some 1,500 people were willing to pay $160 bucks for it. And some of them threw down an additional 75 bones for a picture with him. Tebow, who says he a portion of the proceeds was donated to his foundation was blown away by the proceedings: "...it's an honor to have people want to have your autograph and want to be around you:" Right. And it's even greater honor if you can jam those same people for 160 bucks for that autograph. Man, that's a nice haul. Do the math. 160 times 1,500 is 240-grr. And that doesn't even include the pictures. My man, are you Timothy Richard Tebow or Pete Rose? How long before you show up in the forum shops charging for your "Hancock". You know the guy who has made missionary trips to the Philippines, Thailand and Croatia. The guy who circumcised kids in the Philippines. And routinely visits schools, churches, hospitals and prisons.... More » |
Cavs Fans Set "Snuggie" Record
You know how sometimes it's hard to gauge the exact moment when something "jumps the shark"? The moment it goes from interesting to annoying. From funny and fresh…to played and lame. Well, in the case of the Snuggie, it's not hard. It wasn't when they came out with team-logo Snuggies. Or, when they released "leopard print" Snuggies. Incredibly, it wasn't even when they released Snuggies for pets. No, that moment happened Friday night in Cleveland when 20,000+ Cavs' fans set the Guinness World Record for "largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets." Congratulations, Cleveland. What was the previous record, 2? Look, at this point, if you don't own a blanket with sleeves, you know somebody who owns one. But neither you nor anyone else has ever shown up in a public place rocking one. Well, except for the 20,000 Cavalier fans who did just that Friday night! They became the first people to "snug-up" at a sporting event,... More » |
"Randy The Ram" On JRIB
The beauty of the "Alone with Rome" and "Correspondent" segments is you never know what you're going to get. There was the time Baron Davis nearly blinded his teammate Monta Ellis when he pie'ed him, or when Dodger James Loney got his inner "Man-Ram" on, or the always popular teammate drive by…like the time the "Tru-Warrior" crashed Lamar Odom's segment. Or "Man-Ram" did the same to "Big Papi". But we hit an all-time high last Friday during my interview with former Tennessee safety Eric Berry. I've done thousands of interviews over the years, but this is the first time ever an Academy Award winner made a cameo in the background. Check it! Berry did his interview from a Florida gym; apparently the same gym where Mickey Rourke gets his lift on. Tell me that isn't "Randy the Ram", rocking the man-tan, crazy blonde lettuce and the flannel? If Rourke signed on to do the Wrestler 2, why hasn't it leaked... More » |
