Take(s):

Ben R. Guilty Of Stupidity

Of course, Ben Roethlisberger is innocent until proven guilty…of a crime. But I have no problem convicting him of stupidity…in the first degree right here and now. Although no charges have been filed, police are investigating whether or not he sexually assaulted a 20-year-old college student in a small Georgia town. Considering who he is, what he does for a living, how much he makes…oh, and that he's still battling a civil suit from his first accuser, what was this guy thinking, prowling the bars, and trolling for college kids?

Not that I was looking for this cat to split the atom, but that's stupid and reckless.

How can the guy be so smart on the field and so ignorant off it? After smashing his melon and nearly buying it after getting on a motorcycle without a helmet, I wouldn't expect him to get back on his bike without a bucket again. So what's he doing bar-hopping, looking to get with college kids after being accused of sexual assault less... More »

Edwards Not Firing Up NASCAR

Speaking of reckless, dangerous and brain-dead…

How about Carl Edwards deliberately trying and succeeding in wrecking Brad Keselowski's rig Saturday? Memo to NASCAR: any time you want to get around to suspending Edwards…that would be great. Sure, you're in a bad spot now, after condoning, if not encouraging your drivers to get into one another. But even Edwards had to know when Brian France called NASCAR a contact sport and said, "we want to see drivers mixing it up. Boys have at it"…he wasn't giving you a green light to put a guy into the stands. Yeah, boys will be boys. Until a driver gets killed! And takes some fans with him…

Don't confuse carrying out vigilante justice on the track with running hard, trading some paint and trying to win a race. That's now what Edwards was doing. His race had already ended. He was 156 laps back when he sent Keselowski flying; he was out there for one reason. To get Keselowski; he was looking... More »

Schwartz Recruits Like College Coach

Further proof that pro-football free agency is becoming more like college football recruiting every year. Last year Rex Ryan showed up at Bart Scott's house in the middle of the night to bag the Hood Champ. And this year, knowing he needed a pass rusher to get after the 'Ol Gunslinger, Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler…Lions' head coach Jim Schwartz went black ops outside of Kyle Vanden Bosch's crib.

Vanden Bosch says the second the clock hit 11, he got the call: "I was shocked. I was gearing up all day waiting for 11:00. It was 11:00 my time, waiting for phone calls to see what they were going to do. My wife was up with me watching the Real Housewives of Orange County or something. Coach Schwartz called me right at 11:00 and said, "I'm a block from your house. Can you give me a minute?" He had sent me a text that I missed a minute before that said, "I could be anywhere right now, but I'm coming to talk to you because you’re the guy I... More »

Follett Gets Into Cage With Lions

And I'll tell you the first guy Vanden Bosch should look for when he gets with his new team. Not Jim Schwartz, who gave him his deal and who he played for in Tennessee. Not his new defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham, not even the kid…franchise Q.B. Matt Stafford. Nah, the first guy Vanden Bosch should look for is the one guy who truly exemplifies what it means to be a Detroit Lion. Special teams' psycho…Zach Follett.

This cat is the very personification of lighting up suckers, knocking out chumps, smoking fools and talking noise. That's how he makes his living. And essentially guaranteed it after saying he would payback every team in the league for passing on him after he lasted until the 7th round. Never mind that his own team passed on him eight times. That's beside the point. This guy has this tremendous edge and will do anything to keep it and sharpen it. Including getting into a cage with a lion! Dude! Brian Urlacher is hard, but I don't think... More »

The Mavericks Are Tough

Until someone actually does take the Lakers down, they're still the team to beat, especially in the West…where a three-game losing streak is nothing to trip on. But, the Dallas Mavericks winning 12 in-a-row might be.

Isn't this the same team that Mavericks' own Mark Cuban said "sucks" not long ago? Yes, but that was before they worked a brilliant trade at the deadline; and now he has a new team with a completely new attitude. And yes, Mark Cuban told me recently, "they are much better".

They're much tougher and play much harder since adding Caron Butler, DeShawn Stevenson and Brendan Haywood. And Cuban says in Butler, they have a guy who can take some pressure off of Dirk Nowitzki late in games. If they're not the best team in the league, they're certainly the hottest. They haven't lost in three weeks and they're doing it without Jason Terry and Erick Dampier. They're loaded. And they have weapons all over the floor. And I know,... More »
