Lakers Get Some Help From Soccer Fan
As I said yesterday, losing three in row is no reason for the Lakers to panic. But losing a fourth, at home, to Toronto, would have been. And they needed another buzzer-beater from the "Black Mamba" and a soccer fan going brain-dead courtside to do it. And while Bryant isn't panicking, he is bent. When asked if anything good came out of that win, he said no: "nothing. Our defense in Orlando was much better. And the effort. The effort we had in Orlando will be tough for a team to beat us four times. This thing tonight was garbage." Let me translate that for you. "Y'all need to stop worrying about being the man, your touches, who gets credit, and wanting to be more responsible for winning a ring; and get back to doing those things that won us that ring. Namely, playing some defense, getting to the glass and staying out of my way." On top of that, the biggest adjustment the Lakers can make at this point is making sure they... More » |
Anderson Blasts Browns' Fans
Former Cleveland Browns' Q.B. Derek Anderson got off one of the best parting shots I've ever seen from a fired employee "the fans are ruthless and don't deserve a winner. I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn't great. I hope and pray I'm playing when my team comes to town and (we) roll them." Just as I'm sure they'll never forget you calling them "ruthless" and saying "they don't deserve a winner". Oh, you'll be playing when your team…when you find one…comes to town; I'm just afraid it will be as a holder, on extra points. Pretty hard to celebrate a beat-down when you have nothing to do with it. That said, Anderson does have a point. No matter how badly you want a win, or how much you hate a guy, cheering while he lays on the ground, with a shredded knee, is brutal. That says more about your life not turning out the way you had hoped, than it does your team having a bad year.... More » |
Youkilis Decides To Give Back
When you think of Kevin Youkilis, what do you think of? Two things, you think of a gritty, mashing, likes to fight guy. And…you think of a wicked, man's game goat. Trust me, as a guy who has rocked the goat for a decade-and-a-half, this is the guy we all want to be. He's probably the greatest follicular athlete ever. I love the guy's attitude and his game, but if his game was as good as his goat, he'd be Ted Williams, Joe DiMaggio, Willie Mays and Sandy Koufax all rolled into one. And he knows it. And it's a gift he doesn’t take lightly. So he has decided to give back. He's going to let the fans pick what he rocks this year for charity. They can vote for the goat….Clean-Shaven… Fu Manchu…or…Mustache. Like there's even going to be a vote? 'Stache will win in a landslide. At least it better, who's not voting for that? I don't know about you, but if I see a dude with a 'stache, and I don't mean the "porn stache", I mean a legitimate 'stache,... More » |
De Niro's Chance To Revamp Career
Generally, I'm not a huge fan of sports movies. Not unless someone like Adam Sandler puts me in one like the Longest Yard, or Space Jam back in the day, and I can pull those 2 dollar residual checks once a quarter. Every once in a while, you’ll get a Friday Night Lights, The Blind Side, or a documentary like Hoop Dreams, but for the most part, they don't work because the actors aren't athletic enough to pull it off. And the stories are too clichéd. That said…I love that Robert De Niro has signed on to play Vince Lombardi. That's what I'm saying. An icon playing an icon! Remember the old debate: De Niro or Pacino? Sort of like The Who or the Stones? To me there, was never a debate, as good as Pacino was, it was De Niro and everyone else. But no one has asked that question in a long time. Let's face it, it hasn't been a great decade for the man. At this point, Paulie D is a bigger draw than Bobby D. I understand that most big-time movie... More » |
