Woods Back For The Masters
As most expected, Tiger Woods says he will make his comeback at the Masters: "the Masters is where I won my first major and I view this tournament with great respect." He went on to say, "the major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played." Translation: I'm coming back at Augusta, because they'll keep out all the tabloids that are coming for me and run any drunks from the gallery that are looking for a piece of me. I can let the officials there do my dirty work for me; I'm won't have to talk to the press before the event since I'm not the defending champ. And in the event I just show up, shock the world and somehow win this thing, it will be the biggest in your face ever. No shock here, see you in a month-and-a-half, Eldrick. |
JaMarcus Russell A No-Show
Is there anyone, anywhere, who hates anything as much as JaMarcus Russell hates football? Or, anything more predictable than him being a no-show on the first day of their offseason workout program…and no one knowing where he is…and his teammates not caring. My man, if you hate your job so much, just quit. Although he pretty much did that years ago and just didn’t tell anybody. The only thing worse than being the first pick overall…and not being able to beat out Bruce Gradkowski and Charlie Frye…is not even trying to! Then again, what's the point of putting in the work, when the money's already in the bank, eh, JaMarcus? Well, other than your pride and not wanting to go down as the biggest bust ever. Never has a guy had so much and done so little with it. Ryan Leaf can't believe how much talent you've squandered. This cat showed up to work with a ski mask and gun. Well, at least he did when he used to show up for work. Worse thing a team could... More » |
Rays Want Night Club Atmosphere
BEST OF JIM ROME SHOW, MEMORIAL DAY 2010 Knowing that just going to the ballpark isn't cool, the Tampa Bay Rays are looking to convert their yard into a "baseball nightclub." I like it. But the first thing you'll have to do is change the name of the joint, because Tropicana Field won't work as a club. You need something tight, and sleek like "Juice", or "Squeeze", or maybe just "813". And rip out the turnstiles at the entrances, and replace them with red velvet ropes, and huge dudes in leather jackets, earpieces and clipboards. And everyone knows you can have the pimpest, most decked out club in the country. But if you don't have a line outside, you're nothing. Season ticket holders are on the list and get in first. Scrubs in the upper deck wait behind the rope without a hand-stamp. Because you know, you're at capacity. Unless, you're a really attractive female and then you get right in! Oh, and... More » |
Arenas Wasn't Thinking Longevity
Gilbert Arenas has spoken. He tells Esquire Magazine he wasn't using "longevity thinking" when he broke out those four guns in what he called a prank on Javaris Crittenton. I have to agree Gil. That really wasn't good longevity thinking on your part. Nor, was it very good longitudinal contemplation either. Nor, would I consider it continuation meditation. Nor, would I consider having a gun collection now numbering 400-500, most of which came from some old guy's World War I collection introspective cogitation. "Agent four-fitty". Tank Johnson thinks you're getting carried away now, Gil. A World War One gun selection? Weird. You don't have one of those creepy torture museums down there too, do you Gil? What happened to the good 'ol days when you built million dollar pools, played video poker at half-time, built a shark tank in your basement, threatened to drop 80 on Duke, and just blogged? Where's that guy and when is he... More » |
Masoli Accused Of Stealing Gear
At universities, where football is king, the king of the campus is the starting quarterback. They're the ones who get the standing ovations when they walk into the lecture halls on Mondays. Think Peyton Manning at Tennessee, Vince Young at U-T after doing USC, and former Trojan Matt Leinart…all "Hollywood" here. I'm talking major celebrities. So if one of those major celebrities and his boys break into a fraternity to rip some frat boy’s lapper and flat screen, they're probably not going to have too tough a time identifying them…which apparently is exactly what happened to Oregon Q.B. Jeremiah Masoli. Listen to this cat on the 911 call calmly describe who it was who just jacked his gear. Most victims are too rattled to even talk…this kid lays it all out. I love that not only did he know who it was, he knew how to spell and offered to assist in the manhunt by telling the operator to go online to get all the perp's vital stats. Like, I... More » |
