Take(s):

Kansas State-Xavier Game

Absolutely sick, double OT tilt between Xavier and Kansas St. One of the worst clichés ever, is it's too bad someone had to lose. That's nice. If you're 9! The scoreboard doesn't discriminate. And doesn't account for trying really hard…someone wins, someone loses. Keep moving.

That said, it is too bad Xavier had to lose last night. They ran a winning race. But Jacob Pullen was not going to let K-State lose. More importantly, Frank Martin wasn't going to let Pullen let K-State lose. Or any of the other 12 Wildcats in uniform for that matter. You cannot kill Frank Martin. Nor, his team! They're too tough, too resilient. They persevered. They battled. They blew a 15 point lead late and were called for a foul, beyond the three point line, with a three point lead, which ultimately led to over-time…yet, never caved.

And memo to the refs: there's letting them play, and then there's completely ignoring a mug job right in front of you. If... More »

Cornell Overmatched By Kentucky

In the end, Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins was right; they weren't reading books out there. You can call that Kentucky-Cornell matchup whatever you want. NBA'ers vs. neurosurgeons…lottery picks vs. litigators…playmakers v. pencil-necks! But Cousins called it. They weren't reading War and Peace or getting nice with calculus or chemistry. But the Cats did break out the textbook. And bust Big Red over the head with it.

Textbook Dee and execution…

Cornell may be smarter, but Kentucky was better and more poised. When Cornell landed that their best punch of the fight and jumped out to a 10-2 lead, the Cats just smiled and shook their head like a boxer who gets tagged and pretends it didn't hurt. Except in this case, it really didn't. The Cats shook it off and went on a 30-6 run to end the half, ballgame, thanks for coming.

Look, I love Cornell. Love the way they execute and love the way they compete. But while most of... More »

The Rome Report:

Frank Martin
Mar 26, 2010
No joke, I cannot get enough of Frank Martin . And if I'm CBS, I give him the K.G. treatment and bubble him up. That goes back to when Kevin Garnett was banged up and in streets on the bench. That cat was so expressive, and demonstrative and four-lettered, that I wanted to see him at all times during the game, in the corner of the screen.
