BEST OF THE JIM ROME SHOW, JULY 5TH 2010 As many of you know…. it was on this day… June 17, 1994….that the world stood still…for one, Orenthal… James… Simpson. No one will ever forget that day, the U.S. hosted the World Cup that year, the first game was played on that day. No one here cared then…. and they don’t care now. Well over a million people attended the New York Rangers Stanley Cup parade through the streets of Manhattan on this day back in 1994. The Knicks were hosting Game 5 of the NBA finals against the Rockets at Madison Square Garden. Arnold Palmer was playing his emotional final U.S. Open round at Oakmont. Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 30th bomb of the season….on June 17th. Only Babe Ruth had done it faster…. an amazing day in sports… but none of it mattered…and no one cared… and no one was paying attention, because there was a much more riveting, more compelling, catastrophe taking place that the entire country could not take...
