Go Get It Demps

I would have loved to have been there when new Hornets GM Dell Demps was hired. Dell, you’ve earned this shot, the organization is all yours, go get him. Oh, and when you get a second, go rap with the ‘chise. Chris Paul hates it here, wants a trade and if you don’t make it right with him, we’ll probably have to move the franchise again. Go get it. Of course Paul’s unhappy. I’d be unhappy too if I were him. He sees what LeBron, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh pulled off in South Beach. And what Kobe Bryant has here in L.A. and that Orlando is a force, Boston is still a factor and Chicago is coming fast. And that he has nothing. No help and even worse, no hope.

Agents And Coaches Nick

Just because one agent party on South Beach is threatening to wipe out half of College Football’s most powerful conference, is no reason for Alabama coach Nick Saban to compare unscrupulous agents to a “Pimp.” Yeah… because coaches never try to throw jack or coeds at players to get them. Hey pot…. Meet kettle. Look, I’m not saying dirt bag agents aren’t a problem. But so are dirt bag coaches. And a little more accountability and a little less hypocrisy would be nice. Stop acting like you and the players have nothing to do with this.

Build It Like Beckham

How about another soccer burn. We know Beckham and his wife Posh are all about style. And labels and brand names. Armani. Dolce and Gabbana. Gucci. Lego. You heard me. Lego. Those little plastic building blocks that children geel on, and parents step…. On… barefoot in the middle of night. It’s like stepping on a rake. Well, they’re trending up, across the pond after Becks admitted if he didn’t play soccer, he’d be one of those obsessive Lego artists who spends 80 hours of week sculpting Lego architecture.

New York Has A Soccer Team

USA Today posed the question will the immense interest in the World Cup carry over to the MLS? And you know, I have to be straight and answer by saying (ah, hell no). In a word. No! Not unless, MLS games are broadcast in the middle of the day, in local taverns and fans can use it as an excuse to ditch work and get blasted before lunch. The women winning the World Cup didn’t change anything, nor did Becks coming to the states and neither will Landon Donovan’s game winner against Algeria.

Let me give you yet another example of how little we know and care about soccer in this country. Internationally known and beloved footballer Thierry Henry appeared on a New York TV talk show just after signing with the New York Red Bulls and the very first question the host hit him with was, “You have just joined the Red Bulls, correct? Gunslinger or Grubslinger?

I really want to just ignore the ol gunslinger, but dad gum it, I just can’t. Ol number 4 just forces you to pay attention doesn’t he? For instance, Brett Favre admits he’s gained 14 pounds since the end of the seasons and is looking to drop some lbs. Gunslinger? Or grub-slinger? Hey-o!!! You know a great way to cut weight if you’re a little loose in the cage? Get into camp. Lots of fatties around the league are carrying extra lb’s this time of year, so they report, get screamed at, run extra gassers and skip the au-gratins at the training table. Try it Brett, it works.
