One way or another, it looks like Manny Ramirez is headed to Chicago. He made sure of that by melting down yesterday and getting himself ejected after one pitch while pinch hitting against the Rockies. When this Cat has had enough, he’s had enough and he doesn’t care if you’re still battling for a playoff spot or not. If the Dodgers were still unsure as to whether or not they were still in the hunt or if they should keep him, he made their decision for them. And how predictable. No one has ever started more brilliantly nor crashed more spectacularly in this town than Man-Ram. And if you’re surprised, you’re just not paying attention.

Sure, I was pumped when he got here, but deep down I knew it would end like this. It always does. He comes in, mashes, the fans fall in love with him, and before you know it, Manny begins being Manny. He’ll disappear into the outfield wall during the game to relieve himself… or try to cut off a throw from the centerfielder…or throw a 60 year old travelling secretary to the ground. Or get suspended for trying to get pregnant. Then he’ll shut it down, force a trade, and burn every last bridge on the way out the door. And then all the same people who loved him just months earlier, will hate him. S.O.P. Standard Operating Procedure for Man Ram. He did it in Cleveland, he did it in Boston and now he’s done it here in L.A. And should he stay long enough, it will happen in Chicago too. Because even at 38 and busted up, DH’ing will be good for him and he always mashes when he shows up somewhere new and feels wanted. Trust me Chicago, you’ll be happy to see him, and even happier when he leaves.
