DG Can't Stop Talking About Odell

The 2019 Giants better be the ’72 Dolphins or else Gettleman is going to look like an idiot.

April 23, 2019 - 10:17 am

Odell Beckham Jr. hopped on Twitter yesterday and he had thoughts. Lots of them. And they appeared to be in reaction to Giants general manager Dave Gettleman doing an interview with NJ.com and airing some things out. Here’s an excerpt:

“There’s more to it than just collecting talent. There is a cultural thing to it that’s critical. I have not been on a team that’s gone to a Super Bowl that’s had a culture problem.”

Did he have one with the Giants?

“Not anymore,” he said with a satisfied smile.

End quote. Well, as you can imagine, that made its way back to Odell and Odell was ready. He was prolific on twitter yesterday, to the point where it’s almost hard to figure out when he started going in on Gettleman. But it was probably somewhere after this tweet:

‘LISTEN PSA.... I am having one of the best days of my life ! I have gotten some of the greatest newssss!! Sooo don’t play wit me cause I’m shoootin back, for alllll the haters out there that want a response !! TODAY IS THE DAY MY FRIEND’

Oh, yesterday was the day all right. And he was shooting back, with tweets like this:

‘Ask the coach.... I begged him to go to each and every one of those games actually for my teammates and to be on the sideline for the home games... He told me “No”.... Anything else sir. (That’s to whoever tweeted askin why I didn’t travel while I was hurt....) Next

Someone tweeted at him: ‘Stop crying you loser... There’s no reason to go after a class A franchise because you were a locker room cancer and they realized they needed to change the culture... Grow up and show a little maturity for the first time in your career. #Overrated’

And Beckham responded: ‘Lol u follow me..... With the laughing emojis’

And Odell’s got a point. If the guy is an immature loser who is overrated, why are you following him?

And then Odell chased that with: ‘Ask any one of my teammates of who I was as a teammates and a man and a person.... Yes I'm cancer to a place that's ok wit losing because I want to win that BADDD. Ur absolutely correct!’

And there was this from Beckham, where he repeated some of Gettleman’s previous comments: "We didn't sign him to trade him..." you don't get married to get a divorce ... I tried my best , the situation I had been in since I got there never changed ... We were still losing. PERIOD... Money doesn't bring happiness brotha... Remember that

Here’s the thing. Normally, I would say that Odell probably should stay above it and not get hooked, but I don’t really have a problem with this. Because it seems like the guy who’s really hooked on what happened with Odell isn’t Odell, it’s Dave Gettleman.

Because Dave Gettleman keeps bringing it up. Going to the media and telling them that you don’t have a culture problem anymore after you traded Odell Beckham Jr? Most other GM’s would’ve moved on by now. After all, there is a draft in a few days. Most guys in that spot would be focused on that and not talking about previous moves, but it seems like D.G. can’t wait to talk about it.

And he also couldn’t wait to talk about himself, telling NJ.com: “I’ve been to seven Super Bowls. I feel very strongly that I know what it should look like, what it should smell like, what it should taste like. And, so, you can look at me and say, well, I either know what I’m doing or I’m a big fat rabbit’s foot. Neither one’s bad, right? I like my resume so far.”

Uh, okay. I’m not sure what a Super Bowl should smell like, but I also know that if I was coming off a 5-11 season in 2018, I probably wouldn’t be referencing Super Bowls in the early 90s as evidence that I knew what I was doing. I mean what the hell have you done for me lately...  Smells like desperation.

So does blaming everything on a culture problem and claiming that was fixed when you got fleeced in a trade. That smells like failure.

But here’s the weird thing about all of this. Gettleman seems to think this is working. He seems to think that betting on an aging Eli Manning and trading the best receiver in franchise history is a good play. He seems to think this is the plan.

And it better be. Did you check that detail in the NJ.com article? When asked if the team had a culture problem, here’s the response: “Not anymore,” he said with a satisfied smile.

Like, yep, I’ve got this.

Great. Dave. You better have this. You’re hyping your resume. You’re playing chess, we’re all playing checkers.

So prove it. After all the talking and all the hyping of you that you’ve been doing, about your team, about your culture, hell about your SELF: the New York Giants better have a winning record this season.

Actually, a winning record, wouldn’t be enough given Gettleman’s self-promotion.

Given everything they’re blaming Odell for, they better be the Los Angeles Rams and the Kansas City Chiefs on offense this year now that he’s gone.

That offense better completely take off. The 2019 Giants better be the ’72 Dolphins or else Dave Gettleman is going to look like an idiot. And that aroma that he smells won’t be a Super Bowl. I can’t wait to hear what this guy says when Beckham kills it in Cleveland and they all rave about how good a teammate he is, and the Giants completely mess the bed offensively again. Who are you going to blame it on then, Dave: I know it won’t be you. Ownership should the rip the shovel out of this guy’s hands before he digs any deeper. And he better hope old man Eli and can cash the checks he’s writing with his gap.  But we know that’s not going to happen either. The Giants won the trade, Beckham won the day on twitter and if he Gettleman knows what’s best, he’ll stop bumping his gums.
