Lucas Glover's Wife Attacked Him After Bad Tourney

Hate to be the big buzz kill for many of you clones. But this isn’t funny.

A strange and concerning story broke last night and the details are still coming out, but the summary of it is this: Lucas Glover, 2009 US Open Champion and member of two Presidents Cup teams, was allegedly assaulted by his wife, Krista, after he had a bad round on at The Players Championship on Saturday.

I am bringing this up because it is news. And I am bringing it up reluctantly because I’m not sure you can handle it.

And don’t get me wrong. This isn’t one of those stories that I’m hesitant to bring up because I think you’ll go low-rent on it. This isn’t like that story about the New Jersey superintendent that I’m still debating whether or not I should discuss. That story is crazy. This story is sad and disturbing.

The reports allege that after Lucas shot a 78 to miss the cut on Saturday. According to the police report, “every time he plays poorly in a tournament, Krista begins yelling at him, stating he is a “loser” and a ‘expletive’ and ultimately starting an altercation with him about his performance. Lucas stated Krista had been drinking throughout the day and after playing a bad round of golf today, she began yelling at him in front of their kids and his mother.”

That’s not funny. That’s awful. And it gets worse. According to the report, Lucas said that Krista told him “how he needs to fire everyone, and how he’d better win or her and the kids would leave him and he would never see the kids again.”

And I know a lot of people are looking to have a good laugh about this. Oh, look at this golfer and the fact that his wife is attacking him and his mother after a bad round. Whoa! She’s crazy, am I right?

And then making a bunch of lame jokes about it, “hey, if my wife got that mad about my bad rounds, I’d never be able to golf again.” Hahahaha.

A guy has a bad round and she verbally and physically abuses him and his mother, and threatens to take away his kids. Hilarious. A real side-splitter.

How’s that for a swing thought? Balance. Rotate. Stay on plain. Know where the club face is. Finish to the target. And knock it tight if you ever wanna see your kids again. Can you imagine being this dude on the track with that between your ears for 72 holes?

And if you want to come in here with some wacky retort about this situation with the Glovers, do me a favor: delete your account. And your email address. And my phone number from your phone. I’m not interested in your wacky one-liners about domestic violence and beating up your mother-in-law.

Because there’s nothing funny about this. Not when she’s been drinking. Not when she allegedly attacked Lucas and then his mother when his mother tried to intervene. And not when police officers observed lacerations on Glover and his mother.

And certainly not when she got verbally and physically aggressive with officers as they tried to arrest her. According to the police report, Krista resisted getting into the police car, she allegedly wrapped “her legs and feet around the door and frame of the car preventing the lower half of her body from entering the vehicle.” When officers were finally able to get her into the car, “Krista began screaming while forcefully kicking the rear driver’s side door of the patrol car causing the door to visibly separate from the cell of the door frame.”

That’s not funny. And it’s not funny that, according to the police report, she yelled that the handcuffs were too tight, then when they were loosened, she removed her hand from the cuffs and unsecured herself in the back of the patrol car. And not when she allegedly told an officer “Wait till the Tour hears about this, you will lose your job” “This is why cops get shot in the face” and “wait till I talk with the judge, you will be bleeping fired over this”

Yeah, something tells me the officers aren’t the ones staring down a lifetime of regret here.

Hate to be the big buzz kill for many of you clones. But this isn’t funny. There is absolutely nothing funny about domestic violence. It’s really sad. Based on the accounts, this is someone who has some serious issues. I’m not going to play psychologist or doctor, but if you’re reacting to a bad round of golf like that and threatening to take away someone’s kids because of a bad day at the office, then she needs help and I really hope she gets it. Because clearly this wasn’t the first time and it sure as hell won’t be the last.
