Nice Job, Conor

You want to show how much of a badass you are, Conor, then fight with Khabib, in the cage.

I’m going to start today’s show with three words: WHAT THE HELL? What the hell just happened in New York yesterday at the UFC 223 press conference? I mean, I know what happened, but I really don’t actually know what happened.

Let me set the stage: UFC 223 Media Day was taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn yesterday. At some point, Conor McGregor and, according to Dana White, approximately 20 guys were let into the building by maclife employees and then they “stormed” the building.

They somehow ended up on a loading dock, looking for a bus carrying fighters on the UFC 223 card. In particular, they were looking for Khabib Nurmagomedov, who had been in an incident with McGregor’s teammate and friend Artem Lobov earlier in the week. When they found the bus, they did what any rational, multi multi millionaire, world champion would do... They started chucking objects at the bus, including a hand dolly and what appeared to be a security gate. What? You expected this guy to fly all the way from Ireland to New York and not try run a gate or a dolly through the window the bus. C’mon now! You know better than that. But apparently Conor didn’t.

Let me repeat that: Conor McGregor, the double-champ and face of the sport, was joined by a group of 20 “goons” as Dana called them, and seen firing a hand dolly at the bus carrying UFC fighters.

And Dana was pissed.

And, here I am, on Day 2 of The Masters, when we should be talking about Jordan Spieth and Tony Finau, or even talking about Khabib v. Holloway, and there’s update on that fight as well, and it’s not good. But, instead we’re talking about Conor v. A bus. Unreal. Completely and utterly insane.

But anyway, back to the mess at hand. A bus window was shattered, multiple fighters suffered injuries, and three fights on tomorrow night’s card have been canceled as a result. Michael Chiesa and Ray Borg were pulled from their fights because of cuts to face and eyes respectively. And Lobov, was ripped from his fight because of his role in the melee itself.

Oh, and then there’s the fact that Conor spent the night in police custody at the 78thprecinct after being arrested and is facing three counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of felony criminal mischief. Fantastic. Just fantastic. This is a guy who made so much money for himself and for the company because he was so good at everything – promoting and fighting – and now he’s cost himself a ton.

I cannot stress this enough. That was one of the dumbest, most idiotic and ridiculous things I’ve ever seen in my life. A champion, the man on top of his sport, storming a press conference and attacking a bus with a hand dolly. That’s more insane than when he was firing off water bottles into the crowd at a previous press conference.

That’s more insane than Fan Man, that might even be more insane than Larry Holmes jumping off a car to drop-kick Trevor Berbick. And I never thought anything would run that down that video.

But this tops that because of how dangerous it was. Because you had the baddest man in the game throwing a hand dolly at a bus. And then spending the night in a police station because of it. Nice job, Conor. Really nice job.

And no… this wasn’t staged. This wasn’t Conor McGregor doing Conor McGregor things. This wasn’t to promote a fight, or create content for his media empire or even building brand, this was straight stupidity, and it was criminal behavior.

Why the hell did he come from Ireland to Brooklyn? To get a piece of Khabib for disrespecting one of his teammates? Really? The guy is that out of control? Again, this wasn’t some press conference bullcrap to promote and sell a fight. Which was Dana White’s point: you want to fight this guy, fight this guy. Get in the cage and fight him.  But instead of fighting him, he’s trying to run dollies and barricades through dude’s bus.

And it could cost him a ton of dough. You want to show much of a badass you are, Conor, then fight with this guy. In the cage. Not through the window of the bus. McGregor is the guy who always says, anywhere, any time, let’s do this. So do it. Because that was the worst place at the worst possible time. Bad for him. Bad for the UFC. And big a pain in the ass for Dana White because his biggest star is imploding and he has to deal with all this and just lost three fights from his card on the eve of the promotion.

Again, what the hell was he thinking? What was he doing? It makes absolutely no sense at all. At one point yesterday, Dana said, ‘I don’t know if he’s on drugs or what.’ I hope is. That would at least explain him going braindead the way he did. Because other than being on drugs, I have no idea why a guy like that, would do something that stupid.
